大寶法王噶瑪巴受邀出席在美國國會大廈遊客中心為達賴喇嘛尊者83歲華誕所舉行的慶生活動。會場莊嚴的大廳中政要雲集，其中包括民主黨領袖暨尊者的長期支持者南希．裴洛西、國會議員依蓮安娜．羅斯雷提南、國會議員吉姆．麥克高文、國會議員克羅迪亞．譚倪、國會議員約翰．考伯森、以及國會議員凱瑟琳．克拉克。
In an elegant chamber of the Capitol Visitor Center, many from the House of Representatives had gathered to celebrate the eighty-third birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They included Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader and long-time supporter of His Holiness, as well as Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Jim McGovern, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Congressman John Culberson, and Congresswoman Katherine Clark.

在阿嘉仁波切為尊者的長壽祈願後，尊者駐北美代表恩督．次仁為大眾宣讀一篇來自尊者的訊息，其中談到：「當幫助他人，如果沒有助人的機會，至少也別傷害他人。這就是各位給我的最好生日禮物。」
After the Arija Rinpoche offered prayers for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kalon Ngodup Tsering, the representative of His Holiness in North America, read a message from him. It concluded, “Help others, and if you do not have the opportunity to do so, then at least refrain from harming them. That is the very best gift for my birthday.”

接著，由身為主要貴賓的法王噶瑪巴主持切蛋糕。法王特別邀請國會議員裴洛西麥克高文和他一起進行，三個人的手同時握在切具的刀柄上完成這項任務。
His talk was followed by the cutting of a huge birthday cake by the Gyalwang Karmapa, the Chief Guest for the occasion, who invited Nancy Pelosi and Jim McGovern to help him by placing their hands on the knife handle as well.

之後，法王應邀向大眾致詞：
Once this endeavor was complete, the Karmapa was invited to talk. He spoke spontaneously as he addressed those in the room.

「我們齊聚在國會慶祝達賴喇嘛尊者的生日，首先要祝福在場的每一個人吉祥如意。我個人非常高興能夠出席此項盛會。
“First I would like to offer my Tashi Delek to all who have gathered here in Congress to celebrate the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Personally, I am very happy to be here on this special occasion.

「尊者不僅受到所有藏人的尊崇，同時也是一位致力於世界和平與安樂、受到全球愛戴的領袖。因此，尊者生日的這一天對我們每個人都有重大非凡的意義。在這一天，我們憶念著尊者，並且以致力於世界和平與安樂的由衷誓願來支持尊者。
“His Holiness is not only someone who is revered by all Tibetans, but he is also esteemed world-wide as a leader for world peace and well-being for everyone, so we celebrate his birthday as a day that is special and important to us all. It is a day when we think of His Holiness and also offer him support by committing ourselves from the depths of our hearts to work for world peace and happiness for every living being.

「此時此刻，我們的歡欣之情難以言喻。然而，進一步來說，此時也是我們想到境內藏人的時刻，他們的處境艱難，不允許表達自己對尊者的感受。因此，今天也是我們境外藏人發大心護持尊者的一天，我們當更加努力以圓滿尊者的意樂和悲願。謝謝！
“This occasion is so joyful that it is hard to put feelings into words. Yet further, it is a time to reflect on the situation of the Tibetans in Tibet, who are not allowed to express their feelings about His Holiness and who are suffering great difficulties. Therefore, it is also a day for us Tibetans outside Tibet to dedicate ourselves even more to fulfilling His Holiness’s wishes and to supporting his compassionate vision. Thank you.”
